About this event

Have you ever wondered about the careers of successful postdocs and graduate students who decided not to pursue a career as a professor? Are you interested in learning more about organizations and roles outside of academia?

Join ProPhounD for interactive discussions with PhD holders who have successful experience at great organizations after finishing their PhD or postdoctoral training. Structured like an informational interview, this event will offer you the opportunity to both listen and ask your own questions, providing valuable insight into the current daily life and career journey of a fellow PhD.

This month’s guest, Dr. Pradipta Chakraborty, is a Senior Scientist at Foghorn Therapeutics. She works on patient-focused research involving early target discovery, target validation, lead identification, and hit-to-lead optimization aimed at drug discovery for terminal and rare diseases. She earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed two postdocships before becoming an industry scientist.

Join us on September 7th at 11AM (CDT) for a candid conversation about how she made the move from academia to a role in the biotechnology industry and the kinds of problems she gets to work on today.

What you’ll learn:
- Details of a day-in-the-life at Pradipta's job and some of the interesting challenges she faces
- How Pradipta overcame the difficulties of transitioning from academia to industry
- Tactical advice on how to land the job and thrive at it once you’ve found the right role

Who should attend:
- Any PhD looking to make a career shift and wanting a preview of how industry works on important problems
- Students and professionals interested in learning more about jobs and roles in biotech and how to land them
- PhDs interested in making connections in industry and learning how to conduct informational interviews

In this rare space, you will have access to the unprecedented combination of professional career counseling geared to advanced degree holders and a PhD currently working with a leading organization solving the world’s big problems.
